FREY unveils more affordable line of fast, high-end full-suspension electric mountain bikes

The new FREY EVOLVE line is designed to take the brand’s well-known significant-close electric mountain bikes and cut down selling prices to make them much more cost-effective for the masses. The very first two designs have just been unveiled as the FREY EVOLVE NEO and NEO Professional.

FREY’s e-bikes have often embodied three principal facets: higher high quality elements, reduce-than-anticipated pricing, and ridiculously highly effective motors. I’m talking 1,500W-able Bafang Extremely motors, folks.

But by dropping that previous one in favor of far more fair power, FREY has been able to dangle on to the initially two, retaining a pile of nice pieces and an appealing rate level that substantially undercuts the European level of competition.

That signifies the FREY EVOLVE NEO and NEO Professional e-bikes still sport several large-tier or mid-tier bicycle components, but now involves a reduced ability Bafang mid-push motor than we’ve earlier seen on FREY’s products.

Of training course the expression “lower power” is relative, and the around 600 watts of peak energy from the new Bafang M510 motor is nonetheless a little bit higher than the max output of most major title mid-drive motors like those people from Bosch, Brose and other folks.

As FREY co-founder Ivy Wang explained to Electrek:

The EVOLVE NEO will be the very first eMTB outfitted with the new Bafang M510 method. We have tested and demonstrated that the M510 motor has carried out excellent as an eMTB motor system and we believe now it can compete with Bosch and Shimano systems.

Both equally the FREY EVOLVE NEO and EVOLVE NEO Professional are total-suspension electric powered mountain bikes that can attain speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) from that Bafang M510 program. The drivetrain features equally pedal assist and throttle procedure, while the throttle can be taken off in international locations that do not allow throttle-enabled electric powered bikes.

The M510 drive method also consists of Bluetooth connectivity, letting riders to join via the Bafang Go Application to regulate settings and efficiency parameters immediately on their telephones.

Both bikes include frame-integrated 672 Wh batteries that are lockable and removable. The NEO and NEO Professional are each also available in three sizes. Each and every weighs 26 kg (57 lb) and they are both of those rated for max payloads of 120 kg (264 lb).

The place they vary is mostly in the kind of suspension, brakes and transmissions found on each individual model.

The FREY EVOLVE NEO has much more mid-amount components than the Professional model.

The entrance fork is a RockShox RECON air 150mm suspension fork while the rear shock is a RockShox Monarch RL. The bicycle takes advantage of Tektro High definition E730 quad-piston hydraulic disc brakes on 203mm rotors. For a transmission, the EVOLVE NEO sporting activities a SRAM X5 9-pace drivetrain.

All of all those are nicer elements than you will find on most electrical mountain bikes in this selling price vary, but the EVOLVE NEO Pro updates to even larger-shelf components. The front fork is replaced with a RockShox YARI 160mm air suspension fork. The brakes are upgraded to Magura MT5E quad-piston hydraulic disc brakes on 203mm rotors. And the transmission is swapped for a nicer SRAM NX 11-speed drivetrain.

The FREY EVOLVE NEO is priced at US $2,980, and the NEO Professional is priced at US $3,580. Both equally styles occur in 3 colorway possibilities: Make Blue, Wafer White or Dawn Pink.

I’m hunting forward to receiving my hands on a new EVOLVE shortly so I can test it out and permit you know what I imagine – based mostly on my previous experiences examining FREY’s electrical mountain bikes, this should really be an epic experience for a price tag that critically undercuts its equal EU-developed competitors.

To look at out my past trip on a FREY bicycle, see the movie underneath. The new EVOLVE line does not have fairly as prime shelf pieces as that bicycle beneath, but it’s also just about fifty percent the rate.
