Europeans must be willing to pay back the cost for freedom, the bloc’s major diplomat insists

The EU will come across “major challenges” because of to the sanctions it imposed on Russia about the conflict in Ukraine, the bloc’s major diplomat, Josep Borrell, has claimed.

The issue was elevated through Borrell’s job interview with the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung, with journalists pointing out that quite a few people today in their region are “skeptical” about the anti-Russia steps.

The diplomat responded that the sanctions are functioning, and that “Russia is in problems.”

“These are restrictive measures. We have limited Russia’s economic possibilities. As long as Russia’s financial state is dependent on oil and gas, they’ll be needing our systems,” he stated.

However, Borrell acknowledged that “of class, we are struggling with major difficulties in the small term” since of the sanctions, and “there is no denying that the price of gasoline is increasing.”

In accordance to the diplomat, Europeans “must be inclined to pay back the price for independence, since the war in Ukraine isn’t only a war of the Ukrainians, but a war for our flexibility.”
